Casey Neistat Quote

Stay busy. It’s easier to steer something that is in motion than something that is stationary.

My Additional Analogy to this:

Think about riding a jetski. A couple times in my life I’ve been in jet ski accidents and when you let off the gas you can’t steer a jet ski, literally if you are not hitting the throttle of a jetski it just coasts in a straight line. This same idea can be applied to your life, if you are living a sedentary life that is not filled with choices/decisions/actions then you can’t even steer yourself in a good direction.

MMM Quote’s

Our materialistic society is creating a dog-eat-dog world in the middle of a very comfortable and well-appointed dog food factory.

Life is not a contest to see who can accomplish the most. It’s simply a series of days where your goal is to wake up, have a great time, and go to bed even happier than when you woke up. You can still make the most of your life, but running on permanent overdrive is generally counterproductive.

Great Quote From A Great Friend

I was thinking: I think I feel so inspired by you because you are the highest functioning, most successful (in the grand sense, not just financially) archetype of my ideological polar opposite (were not opposed in all ways but in the central features of our beliefs/personalities). To comment on my definition of success, it’s more like you seem to be something of a lesser Buddha, almost always happy, good things come to you regularly from good karma, etc. Not that Buddha would be my ideological opposite but more that your way of achieving that is opposite of what I would do. So it always seems like there is something profound I might be able to learn from you, maybe even just via proximity — The Dross

Dealing With A Loss

Today I lost someone I cared about, it sucks and I’m sad. A big part of me wants to mope, turn off the lights in my house and not do anything. Just sit in the dark with my phone off and ignore the world for a few days. Maybe I will take that route, or maybe I won’t. I don’t think there is any 1 “correct” way to deal with someone you love dying…..
In general I’m a super positive person, so I like to find positive in everything. That’s pretty hard to do right now, but I will say the one positive of death is that it jolts you into appreciating everyone around you more. You are not shy about telling your family and friends you love them more often, if only for a while… I think this phenomenon is a big part of one of my favorite quotes which goes:

“The closer you are to death, the more alive you feel”

That quote came to me mainly in regards to explaining why I love to do risky activities like sky diving, scuba diving, skiing in back country… ect… but while writing this I realized that it also hits home for me now.

Today

In 20 or 30 years, will I look back and remember this day? Can I do something or build something today that affects me positively for years to come?  If I lounge around and waste time today, that is such a waste of life. I owe it to myself to either focus on having fun or focus on getting shit done today.

Great Quote From A Good Friend

I’m going to share a great quote that my friend Travis and I crafted together a couple weekends ago while drinking a few (possibly too many) beers. The quote references the thought I constantly have about how I get my best work done between the hours of ~10:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.

Minds are like computers working on a network of consciousness. Whenever you are up very late or very early, the network is clear and its easier to distinguish your own thoughts as opposed to being flooded with the static of other minds on the network. Your most original and best thoughts are accessed during this time. – Travis & Sam
