A Great Quote

This quote from Ryan Serhant that I really liked is below. It is in reference to avoiding procrastination and doing things early. He Said:

Eventually, you’r going to have to face the music. So, decide when you’re going to turn the music on.

My Slightly altered version is:

Eventually, you’r going to have to face the music. So instead of delaying it, be the one who decides when the music turns on.

Rough In Water Lines Parts List

Please excuse the lack of polish on this post. This post is simply so I can preserve the parts list of a current project I’m working on in case I ever need it in the future. This is a list of items that were researched and purchased in order to rough in water lines for 26 fixtures in a 2 family house. If someone out there is looking to tackle a similar rough in plumbing project, then the items below represent the entire shopping list that you will need in order to rough in water lines to all of your fixtures using the products I currently believe to be the best most reliable option. A big caveat is that I have never attempted a large scale rough in plumbing project like this so its possible the list below is incorrect or incomplete. However I spent many hours researching it and I typically have a talent for this type of problem solving so I’m fairly confident it will produce an excellent product. I will be creating a follow up post with descriptions and helpful tips of the installation process, and if I learn of any issue with the products below during the installation progress I will update this post to remove them.

To start with Uponor (the maker of the high quality Pex System I’ve chosen to use) has a great paid design service that they offer to anyone. The cost is $100 and it is money well spent! They provide you a trained and licensed engineer who will take your plans and provided information and then draw out a schematic + full parts list for you. On a technical level this is way more accurate than an average home owner could do, and I would argue even more accurate than most plumbers because the information is coming straight from the manufacture of the products.

To start the Uponor planning process buy a water pressure gauge and leave it on your outdoor spiggot for 24 hours, the Upono engineer will request the water pressure of your system before they can begin designing the system.

A Simple Gauage like this from Home Depot Will work: Water Pressure Gauge

The Uponor design team will provide you a full parts list tailored specifically for your project but for reference the parts list needed for my project is below:

Tools:

Supports & Brackets:

Pex Tubing & Pex Connectors:

Sound Proofing Shopping List

Please excuse the lack of polish on this post. This post is simply so I can preserve the parts list of a current project I’m working on in case I ever need it in the future. This is a list of items that were researched and purchased in order soundproof a 2 family house. If someone out there is looking to tackle a similar soundproofing project, then the items below represent the entire shopping list that you will need in order to soundproof your house in the manner that I currently believe is the best most reliable option. A big caveat is that I have never attempted a large scale soundproofing project like this so its possible the list below is incorrect or incomplete. What we will be doing with the list below for the ceiling is attaching 2 layers of drywall to the sub floor between the ceiling joists. Each layer of drywall will have green glue added. We will then be putting fiberglass insulation inside each ceiling joist void. Finally we will install resilient channeling and attached 2 more layers of drywall with green glue sandwiched in-between the layers.

What we will be doing with the list below for the shared walls is adding fiberglass insulation into the stud cavity. Then attaching an unbroken sheet of Mass Loaded Vinyl to the wall. We will follow that up by attaching a layer of drywall to the MLV, followed by green glue and a second layer of drywall.

Fixing Laravel Localhost Email Issue

While updating a clients site today we ran into an error message when trying to do a test on a submission for a new contact form that was created, the error message read:

cURL error 60: SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate (see http://curl.haxx.se/libcurl/c/libcurl-errors.html

To Fix This Issue we Completed the Following Steps:

I am using PHP 7.1.9 for my WampServer, so change 7.1.9 in the example below to the version number you are currently using.

;curl.cainfo

  • Change it to:

curl.cainfo = "C:\wamp64\bin\php\php7.1.9\cacert.pem"

  • Make sure you remove the semicolon at the beginning of the line.
  • Save changes to php.ini, restart WampServer, and you’re good to go!

That fixes our issue with the curl error if we are using localhost to server our site, but if we are using php artisan server to dispaly the webpage then we also need to complete the steps below:

If your laravel project is located in c:\wamp\laravel\ then you should be able to call http://localhost/laravel/public and see the default laravel welcome page or your own.

  1. Open your /app/config/app.php file and check that the value of url directs to your project. 'url'=>'http://localhost/laravel/
  2. Then open your .htaccess file and add the RewriteBase rule under the RewriteEngine On Line RewriteBase /laravel/public/

A Great Quote

This is an excellent Quote I stumbled onto today and wanted to preserve it so I could easily come back and find it in the future:

If you don’t stack up to your own values, well — guess what? Everything prior to this moment is over, and everything after this moment is yet unwritten in your life’s great story, and you are the sole author and arbiter of what takes place in your garden. There are no excuses; there can be no bitterness towards an unjust world, because in your garden, there is only beauty and light and good, fertilized by the decisions you choose to make
